What is the difference between “experience” and “awakened experience.”

Most likely you have words and theology to describe what an “awakened experience” is:  enlightenment, oneness, wellness, or perhaps even “forgiveness?”

The sacred scriptures also use words like “born again” “transfiguration,” “dreams and visions” to describe what we will be exploring at our next retreat.

These words may sound hyperbolic or outdated, but these and other words are the words that spiritual communities have used over the centuries to describe what an “awakened experience” is like.  But having vocabulary or theology to describe and an “awakened experience” is quite different from having such an experience.

Meditation and contemplation are tools to get beyond talking about an “awakened experience” to experience shifts, changes and renewal in our inner life.
